چکیده
The spectral formulation of the stochastic finite-element method is applied to the problem of heat conduction in a random medium. Specifically, the conductivity of the medium, as well as its heat capacity are treated as uncorrelated random processes with spatial random fluctuations. Using the spectral stochastic finiteelement method, this paper analyzes the sensitivity of heat conduction problems to probabilistic models of random data. In particular, both the thermal conductivity and the heat capacity of the medium are assumed to be uncertain. The implementation of the method is demonstrated for both Gaussian and lognormal material properties, modeled either as random variables or random processes.

Kernel-based Collocation Methods versus Galerkin Finite Element Methods for Approximating Elliptic Stochastic Partial Differential Equations
We compare a kernel-based collocation method (meshfree approximation method) with a Galerkin finite element method for solving elliptic stochastic partial differential equations driven by Gaussian noise. The kernel-based collocation solution is a linear combination of reproducing kernels obtained from related differential and boundary operators centered at chosen collocation points. Its random ...

The spectral formulation of the stochastic nite element method (SSFEM) is applied to the problem of heat conduction in a random medium. Speciically, the conductivity of the medium, as well as its heat capacity are treated as uncorrelated random processes with spatial random uctuations. The paper introduces the basic concepts of the SSFEM using a simple one-dimensional heat conduction examples. ...
متن کاملNumerical solution of second-order stochastic differential equations with Gaussian random parameters
In this paper, we present the numerical solution of ordinary differential equations (or SDEs), from each order especially second-order with time-varying and Gaussian random coefficients. We indicate a complete analysis for second-order equations in special case of scalar linear second-order equations (damped harmonic oscillators with additive or multiplicative noises). Making stochastic differe...

Because of random nature of many dependent variables in coastal engineering, treatment of effective parameters is generally associated with uncertainty. Numerical models are often used for dynamic analysis of complex structures, including mechanical systems. Furthermore, deterministic models are not sufficient for exact anticipation of structure’s dynamic response, but probabilistic models...
متن کاملNon-Gaussian Stochastic Radiation Transfer in Finite Planar Media with Quadratic Scattering
The stochastic radiation transfer is considered in a participating planar finite continuously fluctuating medium characterized by non-Gaussian variability. The problem is considered for diffuse-reflecting boundaries with quadratic Rayleigh scattering. Random variable transformation (RVT) technique is used to get the complete average for the solution functions that are represented by the probabi...
